On January 15, 2025, as the winter air settled over the rolling hills of the Chittagong University campus, the Faculty of Business Administration auditorium came alive with a distinct, sharp energy. More than 400 young minds from 50 different institutions had converged, transforming the hall into a bustling epicenter of global thought. This was the commencement of CUMUN 2025, the landmark ninth edition of a conference that, since its inception in 2015, has stood as a premier crucible for youth diplomacy in the region.

Rather than replicating the safe, well-worn tracks of standard statecraft, the assembly established its distinct character through a deliberate intellectual pivot, unified by the directive: "Fostering Sustainable Innovation Through Youth Advocacy for Inclusive Global Advancement." The chambers became spaces for genuine structural critique, probing how technological innovation and socio-economic parity could be leveraged to mend the deep, generational fractures dividing global economies.

An expansive footprint, marked by the inclusion of participants from Nigeria, Somalia, and Sierra Leone, lent the entire event an undeniable gravity. From the opening moments, CUMUN 2025 subverted expectations, demonstrating that the emerging generation refuses to wait for a formal invitation to lead — they are already commanding the conversation.

Behind the scenes

The Secretariat

CUMUN 2025 was organised by a dedicated Secretariat drawn from the student body of the University of Chittagong. Across months of preparation, they designed committees, trained delegates, coordinated logistics, and held the moving parts of a four-day international conference together.

A conference is only as good as the team behind it. By that measure, CUMUN 2025 was in good hands.

Moments from CUMUN 2025

Opening Ceremony

January 15, 2025. The inaugural session established the formal academic tone of the conference, introducing the diplomatic standards and procedural expectations demanded of the assembly.

Socials

When the formal sessions paused, the cultural evening shifted the event's dynamic entirely. Moving from policy to performance, both delegates and Secretariat members took the stage with acoustic music, dance routines, and mime. The cultural night provided a necessary transition from strict debate to casual networking.

Closing Ceremony

By January 18, the delegates who gathered for the closing ceremony had argued, negotiated, drafted, and voted their way through four days of sustained intellectual effort. The closing ceremony was the moment the conference paused to recognise that. Awards were presented, reflections were shared, and a ninth edition drew to its close.

Media coverage

The work of CUMUN 2025 did not end at the chamber doors. Across print, broadcast, and digital platforms, our media partners documented the conference and brought its debates to audiences far beyond the University of Chittagong campus.
